ASOSU Job Descriptions

Graphic Designer

(schedule A)

** Please provide a portfolio at the Interview**

  • Must be able to create public relation material as needed, including but not limited to business card designs, logos, posters, and brochures
  • Must be familiar with a MAC computer and graphic software
  • Be able to create fresh and interesting advertisement
  • Be able to meet Barometer deadlines for publishing advertisements
  • Provide assistance to the Web Designer regarding graphic layout of the website
  • The Graphic Designer will be a part of the Public Relations Team and attend weekly meetings

Women’s Affairs Task Force Director

(schedule A)

Be responsible for gathering information, tracking legislation and conducting research on issues and policies concerning women in higher education. Create a comprehensive filing system to facilitate ongoing research and data compilation on women’s issues.

  • Be a student advocate for women OSU students to create a safe, open environment.
  • Coordinate the advocacy and programming efforts of ASOSU on issues concerning women students.
  • Promote leadership for women on campus, especially with regards to increasing their numbers and influence in policy making.
  • Identify and develop areas of involvement in women’s affairs in which ASOSU should engage itself.
  • Inform students of issues and legislation of importance and gather student opinion on the issues.
  • Take the initiative in responding to, and developing solutions to, problems in the areas of: sexual harassment, sexual prejudice and discrimination, personal safety, self-esteem and eating disorders.
  • Collaborate with Saferide with the planning of Take Back the Night.
  • Serve on the President’s Commission for the Status of Women.
  • Advise the Executive Committee on women’s issues.
  • Research problems of significant importance and develop issue briefs at the direction of The ASOSU.
  • Using direct action organizing techniques, plan out campaigns to create positive concrete change for students throughout the year.
  • Write an Access article on current campaigns and goals at the request of the Executive Director of Public Relations or the Executive Director of Task Forces.
  • Recruit and coordinate a task force to accomplish the duties mentioned above.

Accessibility Task Force Director

Assistant to State Affairs Task Force Director

  • Be responsible for establishing effective working relationships with the Oregon Legislature, as well as key Legislative committees. Invite members of the Oregon Legislature to visit campus and work to involve ASOSU in those visits.
  • Be responsible for gathering information and tracking legislation and programs at the state level, which impact the students of OSU. Create a comprehensive filing system to facilitate ongoing research and data compilation on critical state issues.
  • Identify and develop areas of involvement on the state level in which ASOSU should engage itself.
  • Inform students of issues and legislation of importance and gather student opinion on the issues.
  • Coordinate candidate/political visits with the Federal & Community Affairs Task Force Directors.
  • Serve on the Oregon Student Association Board of Directors and attend all meetings, trainings and related events.
  • Organize delegation lobbies to Salem on behalf of ASOSU in conjunction with the Oregon Student Association (OSA).
  • Coordinate the annual voter registration campaign with the Federal & Community Affairs Task Force Directors including the following aspects: voter registration, voter education and get out the vote.

Executive Director of Committees

The role of this position is to appoint students to serve on ASOSU and all- University Committees (Faculty Senate and Administrative Commissions and Committees) there are currently 46 committees that have student representatives appointed by the Executive Director of Committees. The purpose is to ensure that there is strong student voice on all committees on the Oregon State University campus.

  • Recruit and appoint students to all ASOSU and OSU committees .
  • Fulfill 40 hours a week in the summer and 20 hours per week during the Academic year
  • Ensure that there is a strong student voice by enforcing the shared Shared governance Governance P olicy throughout campus and university committees .
  • Serve as/on the Cultural Center Advocate, Greek Community Advocate, Faculty Senate Committee on Committees , and the ASOSU Committee on Committees .
  • Co-Chair the Student Activities Committee and be a signatory on the MUNV99 account.
  • Head up Lead ASOSU recruitment and retention efforts , especially but not limited to ASOSU committees .
  • Attend various campus and community events
  • Attend all of the following meetings: Executive Meeting , Staff Meeting , Senate Meetings (when requested), retreats , and workshops
  • Co-Chair the Student Activities Committee and be a signatory on the MUNV99 account
  • Update the ASOSU committees Committees handbook annually .

Community Affairs Task Force Director

  • Be responsible for establishing effective working relationships with the Corvallis City Council, Mayor, City Manager and city departments.
  • Be responsible for gathering information and tracking legislation and programs at the city level, which impact the students of OSU. Create a comprehensive filing system to facilitate ongoing research and data compilation on critical city issues.
  • Identify and develop areas of involvement in the city of Corvallis in which ASOSU should engage itself.
  • Inform students of issues and legislation of importance, gather student opinion on the issues and encourage student participation in city governance.
  • Conduct research pertaining to current concerns at the city level.
  • Coordinate candidate/political visits with the Federal & State Affairs Task Force Directors.
  • Represent the ASOSU on the Corvallis City Council, Citizens Advisory Commission on Transit, Bicycle and Pedestrians Advisory Commission and any other pertinent city group.
  • Work closely with the Corvallis City Council members, with particular emphasis upon local ward representatives, and meet monthly with the ASOSU’s Corvallis City Council liaison.
  • Coordinate the annual voter registration campaign with the Federal & State Affairs Task Force Directors including the following aspects: voter registration, voter education and get out the vote.
  • Advise the Executive Committee on city issues.
  • Research problems of significant importance and develop issue briefs at the direction of The ASOSU.

Director of Social Resources

  • Work in conjunction with the Student Committee on Hunger and Poverty to develop and administer programs that address the issues and needs of hunger and poverty on campus.
  • Serve on pertinent campus outreach committees as seen necessary by the Executive Director of Services.
  • Allocate the ASOSU Health Insurance Subsidy, ASOSU Childcare Subsidy and the ASOSU Graduate Conference Registration Subsidy.
  • Gather all information about different resources available for students (i.e.-food stamps, housing, community soup kitchens, etc.)
  • Compile a list and contact information for organizations off campus that can help students in need.
  • Co-chair the Student Committee on Hunger and Poverty.
  • Work in conjunction with the Student Involvement Meal support staff regarding the use of the kitchen.
  • Collaborate with the Student Committee on Hunger and Poverty to develop an educational focus for the free student lunch.
  • Develop and administer the Escape Hunger program
  • Oversee and direct all aspects of the Escape Hunger program.

Including:

  1. Recruiting volunteers
  2. Coordinating volunteers to work shifts
  3. Administering Kitchen Training at the beginning of every term
  4. Providing opportunities to obtain a Food Handlers Card

  • Serve on the OSU Sustainability Fee Committee and assist in projects funded by the student incidental sustainability fee.

  • Assume responsibility for services, programs and activities put on by Saferide, Peer Mediation Center , Legal Advising, Legal Advocacy, Director of External Development, the Sexual Assault and Alcohol Prevention Coordinator and the Director of Social Resources.
  • Coordinate the hiring of all service directors, and sit on hiring committees for these services when requested.
  • Work with all services to ensure smooth operations through the duration of the school year.
  • Work with each Director on maintaining their respective budgets.
  • Develop goals that you can assist each Director in working towards.
  • Develop and update the service directors’ positions and job descriptions each year.
  • Develop orientation programs to train service directors and their respective teams.

Director of External Development

  • Perform fundraising and donation efforts as needed by staff members.
  • Assist all Task Forces and Services in any fundraising efforts they may need throughout the year.
  • Plan, organize and execute a major fundraiser every term (i.e.-the ASOSU Drive 4 Activism Golf Tournament).
  • Plan, organize and execute the ASOSU /MUPC Homecoming Breakfast.
  • Be a signatory on the ASOSU Leadership Fund.
  • Allocate funds from the ASOSU Leadership Fund, when requested, at your discretion.
  • Report to the ASOSU Senate as requested.

Federal Affairs Task Force Director

  • Be responsible for establishing effective working relationships with the key Congressional offices, as well as key Congressional committees. The director will focus on the Oregon Congressional delegation and work to establish an ongoing exchange of information with both local and Washington , D.C. offices of the delegation. Additionally, invite members of Congress, typically members of the Oregon Congressional delegation, to visit campus and work to involve ASOSU in those visits.
  • Be responsible for gathering information and tracking legislation and programs at the national level, which impact the students of OSU. Create a comprehensive filing system to facilitate ongoing research and data compilation on critical national issues.
  • Identify and develop areas of involvement on the federal level in which ASOSU should engage itself.
  • Inform students of issues and legislation of importance and gather student opinion on the issues.
  • Coordinate candidate/political visits with the State & Community Affairs Task Force Directors.
  • Organize a delegation to lobby in Washington , D.C. on behalf of the ASOSU.

Executive Director of Finance

The ASOSU Director of Finance is the official in charge of all the budgets and financial transactions of ASOSU. They serve on the Educational Activities Committee to determine budgets for all student organizations. The Director is a full participant in all facets of ASOSU governance. They are responsible for bi-monthly budget updates to the ASOSU Senates.

  • Maintain and administer all ASOSU budgets and financial transactions.
  • Assist ASOSU Task task Forces forces and services with budget creation and implementation .
  • Serve as a member Vice Chair of the Educational Activities Committee .
  • Implement the ASOSU “Net Zero” Policy
  • Serve as an active member of the ASOSU Executive Committee
  • Administer staff payroll, including the distribution and collection of all staff timesheets .
  • Conduct s and provide s budgetary research.
  • Provide budget updates once per month to all staff members who manage an index number.
  • Provide budget updates to the ASOSU Senates.

  • Be a student advocate for multicultural OSU students to create a safe, open environment.
  • Serve on the Oregon Student Association’s Oregon Students of Color Coalition Board of Directors and attend all meetings, trainings and related events.
  • Create and maintain an OSCC chapter at OSU.
  • Identify and develop areas of involvement in multicultural affairs in which ASOSU should engage itself.
  • Inform students of issues and legislation of importance and gather student opinion on the issues.
  • Plan a summit or conference on diversity issues for students.
  • Serve as a link between ASOSU, ethnic underrepresented student groups and administrative units.
  • Advise the Executive Committee on multicultural and diversity issues.

Non-Traditional Student Affairs Task Force Director

The job of the Executive Director of Public Relations is to develop a positive public image of ASOSU to the students and campus community of OSU. This position puts out a newsletter once a term, called the Access, which lets the campus know the accomplishments and activities of ASOSU.

State Affairs Task Force Director

  • Be responsible for establishing effective working relationships with the Oregon Legislature, as well as key Legislative committees. Invite members of the Oregon Legislature to visit campus and work to involve ASOSU in those visits.

  • Organize delegation lobbies to Salem on behalf of ASOSU in conjunction with the Oregon Student Association (OSA).
  • Coordinate the annual voter registration campaign with the Federal & Community Affairs Task Force Directors including the following aspects: voter registration, voter education and get out the vote.
  • Advise the Executive Committee on state issues.

Saferide Assistant Director

  • Assist the Director in maintaining a van service that provides free transportation to OSU students in the evening, 7 nights a week. This service shall include the wheelchair accessible van.
  • Ensure that the scheduling for each month is completed to accurately reflect each employee’s availability as much as possible.
  • Work with Saferide Director and to educate the campus about rape and sexual assault issues.
  • Be the liaison for the Saferide drivers and dispatchers, to the Director. You are the person directly responsible for the drivers and dispatchers.
  • Be available for drivers and dispatchers.
  • Be willing to come in if called in on a sick call or a no show. Always answer your phone calls from the Saferide office.
  • Serve on pertinent campus safety issue committees organized through ASOSU, possibly some other campus-wide committees as seen necessary by you and the Director of Saferide. (i.e.-Sexual Assault Resource Network).
  • Coordinate publicity to inform the campus of van service and current operating hours.
  • Fulfill 10 hours per week during the academic school year.
  • Assist in the hiring of new drivers and dispatchers.
  • Revise the van dispatch logs and keep the stats current and up to date every week.

  • Oversee and direct all aspects of the Saferide program, including coordinating a staff member to be directly responsible for each area. Work with the Assistant Director to plan trainings and workshops for Saferide drivers and dispatchers.
  • Assist in hiring an Assistant Director to aid in office management and general coordination of the Saferide van service throughout the year.
  • Work with the Assistant Director to hire drivers and dispatchers to facilitate the van service. Interview for new prospective staff members at any time deemed necessary by you and the Executive Director of Services.
  • Coordinate, with the ASOSU Public Relations office, the publishing of Saferide's policies every term.
  • Fulfill no less than 20 office hours per week during the academic year.
  • Complete payroll for driver/dispatcher hours once a month.
  • Set up a system that will complete Performance Reviews for Saferide employees, (e.g.-secret rider program) and ensure that there are people to facilitate this program.
