Voter Registration & Voter Education
This year we have gotten off to a great start. Federal Affairs has teamed up with State and Community Affairs to make one amazing voter registration and voter education campaign. We registered 1,786 students on campus this term then turned our attention to voter education. We passed out 1300 voter guides along with making several ballot measure presentations.
Candidate Forums
This year a major goal of the Federal Affairs Task force is to inform students about the candidates representing them on congress. One way we are doing this is to invite them to campus! Oct 25th, Congressman DeFazio and Jim Feldkamp talked with students about higher education funding and other important issues that affect students. Throughout the year we will be bringing all seven of Oregon's representatives to campus, so watch for announcements in the barometer and come meet your representatives!
Washington D.C.
Every year the Federal Affairs Task Force takes a trip to Washington D.C. and lobbies Oregon's congressional representatives. Last year we discussed the issue of expensive textbook prices and ways to lower them. We realized that there is little congress can do to benefit students on this issue. We also spoke about revising the FAFSA process. This year we will continue working on the revisions to FAFSA and also talk with them about higher education funding. If there are any issues you would like to bring to D.C. stop by and let me know!
