Current Campaigns

  • Martin Luther King Day Planning Committee: We are planning events for nontraditional students! If you're interested in helping out and planning please feel free to contact us!
  • Non-Traditional Student Handbook: We created a handbook for non-traditional students to be handed out at START sessions, provided to advisors across campus, and made available in Student Involvement, for example. If you have any tips/advice that you think non-traditional students of all kinds would benefit from, please e-mail them to us at nontraditional.affairs@oregonstate.edu!! Thanks!
  • Non-Traditional Student T-Shirts Coming Soon! If you have any ideas and want to help creating them please contact us!
  • International Students and Non-Resident Medical NeedsWe are investigating the medical, dental and contraceptive needs of International Students and Non-Resident students. Currently working on an educational pamphlet and policy changes.
  • HUD: We are working on getting Section 8 HUD subsidies accepted at Orchard Court, the family housing on campus. This is a federally funded program which many Orchard Court residents are eligible for, but currently Orchard Court and UHDS (University Housing and Dining Services) do not accept these subsidies. Reasons for this include too much lead paint in the window trims of 94 of the units and UHDS would be required to have "open" books, which they don't exactly have currently. Jessica Bauer, an Orchard Court resident, and I met with Dan Larson, Assistant Director of UHDS on November 20 and he is on board to look into this. His main concern is that the time and energy put into this project is balanced by the return. Right now he is looking into the obstacles within the university and we are researching the HUD and Public Housing Authority side of it. We have another meeting scheduled with Dan for February 16.

2006-2007 Victories

  • Non-Traditional Student section in the "Official Student Survival Handbook": We worked with SOAR (Student Orientation and Retention) to get a non-traditional student section in the handbook.
  • Your Voice, Your Conference: We hosted a program, "Being Non-Traditional at OSU," on January 17th as a part of this conference. We educated a group of people about what it means to be a non-traditional student and started dialogue.
  • 25+ Lounge Open House, Each term edition: There was a 25+ Lounge open house at the start of fall term, but we thought it would be a good event to have each term, to catch up with each other and meet new students. Many people attended who had never been to the 25+ Lounge before. In cooperation with Machelle Kennedy, Program Coordinator at the MU, we hosted this event every term. So join the list serv to find out when!
