ASOSU SafeRide - FAQs

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

There are many reasons! Some examples include:

  • Number of Vehicles out - Sunday through Thursday we have 4 vheicles operating while Friday & Saturday we have 5.
  • Staffing - We do have staff who get sick, while we do our best to find a replacement occasionally we must operate with less vehicles.
  • Unforeseen problems during shift - A variety of issues come up during operations and some require us to have a vehicle offline until the issue is resolved.
  • High Demand - As an affordable alternative to expensive ride share services such as Lyft & Uber, demand for SafeRide is high, especially on weekends and Halloween.

We can pick you up from the grocery store, but we cannot drop you off there as it goes against our policy of dropping off at commercial locations.

We are constantly updating the boundary and are open to suggestions! If your home falls outside of where we serve, and you would like us to review the boundary, please email [email protected] with your full address.

OSU students on the Corvallis campus with an active ONID may use ASOSU SafeRide. As a student fee-funded service, we cannot give rides to people who do not pay student fees.

For each ride request, we can pick up a maximum of 4 people.

It depends on how severe the roads are. Our student leadership team will consult the Coordinator to decide. However, if OSU decides to close campus for inclement weather, then we will also stop service for the day(s) campus is closed. We will always try to post an announcement on our app for any updates to service throughout the year.

We will take our last ride requests at 1:00am.  We will then pick you up as long as your drop off ETA is before 1:30am. Unfortunately, due to employment regulations we cannot have our drivers picking up riders past this time. Our student staff need their rest and can't work all night.

We do not actively request student ID’s from our riders. You should always have your OSU ID on you when utilizing OSU services in the event verification is requested.

The vehicle probably didn’t miss you. We have several vehicles out and about each night and there is likely another vehicle assigned to your ride request.

When you call in, our staff will do their best to call you when the vehicle arrives. We will give you your pick up ETA over the phone and we encourage you to wait outside 4-5 minutes before that wait time.

For the most updated information and on-demand vehicle tracking, as well as fastest service, please download our app! The app will send you push notifications when a vehicle is at your location.

Unfortunately, the app is not perfect and sometimes it will malfunction! You are always welcome to call our office, (541) 737-5000, to submit your ride or ask for assistance with your app.

If you want to provide feedback to our app developers, you can do so directly in the app itself, or you could take screenshots of your issue and send it to [email protected].

Yes, we are an inclusive service. We do have some policies around intoxicated riders. As long as you can do the following, you can ride with us:

  • You are able to physically get into the van on your own
  • You are coherent
  • You are able to confirm your final destination
  • You follow all requests of the drivers and abide by all other OSU student conduct code policies

If you are not able to do the above items, then we unfortunately need to refuse service. However, we will not just leave overly intoxicated students. Staff are trained to assess if a medical evaluation is needed and on what other ride options are available in Corvallis.

No, so please don’t! We use university operated vehicles, we also need to follow all of Motor Pool's & OSU's policies when it comes to drugs/alcohol.

Any sort of alcoholic beverages, marijuana, or other drugs are not allowed in the vans. If we suspect you are carrying these items, we will ask for them to be disposed of before entering the van. Failure to adhere to this request will result in refusal of service.
